Size: 750ML
Proof: 95 (47.5%ABV)
Origin: United States
Distillery: 13th Colony Distilleries
This is 13th Colony’s first small-batch cask strength release of their Southern Rye. It’s bold, high-proof, and made to showcase strong rye spice balanced with rich sweetness and depth. The rye is aged under Georgia’s heat and humidity, which imparts extra maturation character, and French oak spirals are used to enrich the wood influence.
Thirteenth Colony Cask Strength Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Caramel, brown sugar, nutmeg, and clove. As it opens up, aromas of vanilla, hazelnut cream, port wine, and coffee beans emerge.
Palate: Starts with clove and pepper spice, then the rye grain becomes more pronounced. Toasted whole grain bread, praline, and maple flavours follow through, finishing with vanilla cookies and toasted almonds.
Finish: Long and coating. Rye oils linger on the palate; flavors shift toward cooked dates, sugar plum, raisins, and a hint of root beer in the tail.
Distillery Information
13th Colony Distilleries is located in Americus, Georgia, founded by a small group of friends with the aim of producing spirits in the “southern style.” They use both sourced whiskey and their own maturation in Georgia, benefitting from the climate’s heat and high humidity, which accelerates maturation and tends to intensify proof and wood-extracted flavors. Their flagship Southern Rye is finished with French oak spirals, a signature touch that adds extra wood character beyond standard barrel influence. Although their rye mash bill is largely rye (95%) with a small portion of malted barley, the distillery takes care to manage balance through aging, barrel selection, and finishing techniques. This small-batch cask strength rye is their first foray into releasing their Southern Rye whiskey in uncut form.
