Origin: United States
Distillery: Milam & Greene
Created with well-known whiskey nerds and writers Noah Rothbaum and David Wondrich, this is a real departure for Milam & Greene, but not an unwelcome one, showcasing a very high-proof experience with more punch than the brand is typically known for. Peppery and char-forward on the nose, it’s heavy with notes of dark chocolate, rye spice, and mint. High-proof, for sure, the palate is hot but not scorching, showing some peanut, citrus peel, and plenty of mint. Brown sugar dominates, with a nuttiness building on the finish, then more baking spice, especially ginger. There’s a hint of smoldering, toasted marshmallow on the back end.
Milam & Greene Unabridged Bourbon Vol 1 Tasting Notes
Nose: On the nose, there is an oaky, split-log tang cushioned by waves of pecan pie, maple syrup, and creamed corn.
Palate: On the palate, the Whiskey is complex and chewy, with cinnamon-spice oak, dark chocolate, and stone fruit notes to balance the richness.
Finish: A very long finish.
Distillery Information
Milam & Greene was created by some of the world’s most experienced whiskey veterans, including whiskey expert and author Heather Greene and Master Distiller Marlene Holmes. To achieve excellence, they bring in grains, yeast, barrels, and experience from across America and openly embrace a multitude of whiskey-making methods to ensure consistency, beauty, and refinement. The Milam & Greene Distillery sits in the lush, Texas Hill Country where the hot summers, mild winters, and wild temperature variances add spark and personality to the spirit. Not only does the whiskey-making team distill on a 300-gallon copper pot still in Texas, but the also travel to Kentucky multiple times a year to distill on a column still. Different stills create different flavors, even when they use their own proprietary yeast recipe, grain recipe and people. Milam & Greene ages their whiskey across four states, with different char levels and barrel sizes. They also play with barrel-fill proof depending on where the barrels are aging. Finally, Milam & Greene transfers all of their barrels to Texas for blending, finishing, proofing and hand-bottling. They understand that to create stunning whiskey, a multitude of methods in addition to distilling are necessary to create an award-winning whiskey range: distilling and aging in different states, blending, batching, sourcing and finishing.
