Distillery Information
Old Forester is a venerable Kentucky Bourbon brand of the United States. It was the first to be sold exclusively in sealed bottles and is marketed as the longest-continuously distilled Bourbon in history. The Louisville-based distillery was founded by George Garvin Brown, a pharmaceutical salesman turned Bourbon merchant in 1870. It is reported that Brown’s half-brother John Thompson Brown is also a co-founder who went on to become a dignitary of the American whiskey industry. He was heavily involved with the founding of the famous Four Roses Distillery as well as the Heaven Hills Distillery. The 1870 Original Batch recipe was first created, in 1870 unsurprisingly, with Bourbon from three distilleries, blended to make a consistent flavor profile. It was bottled and sealed to ensure the standard and prevent adulteration and substitution, becoming the first Bourbon so packaged.
